Did you know

The word folio comes from the Latin folium meaning leaf or sheet of paper. In the days of hand bound books, a folio referred to a large sheet folded once to create two leaves or four pages. These were used for important works such as Bibles, atlases, and legal records where size and permanence mattered. Over time, folio came to describe not just the physical page but the documents themselves and eventually the cases designed to carry them.
