Did you know

The tale goes that golf’s standard of 18 holes has its roots in Scotland’s long tradition of whisky. Legend tells that when the Old Course at St Andrews was being formalised in the eighteenth century, the number of holes was set at 18 to match the number of measures that could be poured from a single bottle of whisky. The idea was that a group of players could enjoy a round of golf while sharing a bottle, with each hole marked by a fresh measure.
