The Unexpected History of the Fedora

Michelle, Herbert Johnson's Master Hatter, traces the fascinating history of the Fedora. Named after the heroine of an 1882 stage play and brought to prominence by the pioneering actress Sarah Bernhardt, the Fedora soon became associated with the women's rights movement before finding favour with actors, musicians and adventurers alike. Few hat styles have travelled such an unexpected path.

Today, Michelle hand stitches every Fedora in our Syston workshop using the finest rabbit and beaver felt. Bespoke options are also available for those seeking a hat made to their own specifications.
